Serie A giants Inter Milan have reportedly been told to cough up €40 million to land Chelsea star Marcos Alonso in January.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea have slapped a €40 million price tag on Marcos Alonso, who could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window. Serie A giants Inter Milan are interested in securing the services of the Spaniard.
Alonso joined Chelsea from Fiorentina in the summer of 2016 and was an instant success at Stamford Bridge as the Blues romped to the Premier League title under Antonio Conte. However, in the seasons that have followed his maiden campaign with the West Londoners, the 28-year-old has had to share game time with Emerson Palmieri.
This term, Emerson seems to have usurped Alonso, featuring more times in the Premier League despite being sidelined for a number of weeks due to injury. Unsurprisingly, a drop in stature has given way to reports linking him with a move away from Chelsea. In particular, Serie A giants Inter Milan have been linked with the player.
The Nerazzurri had reportedly been interested in signing Alonso in the summer as well before they acquired Cristiano Biraghi on a season-long loan deal. Biraghi, though, has failed to impress so far this season and is unlikely to see his loan deal being converted into a more permanent stay.
Kwadwo Asamoah has been a consistent figure as the left wing-back in Conte’s system, but injuries have been piling up for the Ghanaian defender, meaning the former Chelsea boss needs to bolster his squad in January. To that end, Alonso is a viable target for Inter Milan.
The Spanish international is familiar with Conte’s system from the manager’s time with Chelsea and is much more reliable as a left wing-back, which is the role he will likely play if signed by Inter Milan, than he is as a left-back.
However, if the Serie A giants are to secure the Spaniard’s services, they will have to fork out €40 million, with Chelsea open to the idea of parting ways with him. Alonso, too, is ready to return to Italy, where he will get the chance to compete for the Serie A title while also continuing to compete in the Champions League.
It now remains to be seen if a move to Inter Milan can see the light of the day. For now, the player’s price tag seems to have been revealed, if Calciomercato are to be believed, with Chelsea demanding €40 million in exchange of his services.
