Real Madrid reportedly continue to be interested in Spanish youngster Ferran Torres, with Valencia trying to tie him down to a new deal.
Spanish publication AS have reported of Real Madrid’s persisting interest in Ferran Torres. The Valencia youngster has always been on the radar of the Spanish giants, who continue to monitor his status at the club and could potentially move in for the winger if and when the opportunity arises.
Ferran Torres is one of the Spanish stars that has been perennially pursued by Real Madrid, right from when he was in the Under-12 squad. Los Blancos had two subsequent failed attempts as well, the latest coming prior to the Under-17 World Cup in India.
19-year-old Ferran Torres has become a mainstay in the Valencia first-team squad and with good reason. The winger has 4 goals and 3 assists to show for his efforts this season so far, with a goal or an assist almost every other game for Valencia. No wonder the talented attacker has the likes of Real Madrid interested.
As far as Real Madrid themselves are concerned, Gareth Bale looks to be on borrowed time at the Bernabeu, having lost the support of the fans and not considered a starter anymore by Zinedine Zidane. Vinicius Junior and Lucas Vazquez have tried to step up, but are considered role players mostly within the team right now, leaving Eden Hazard as the only genuine choice out wide.
Hazard is predominantly a left winger, which leaves room for a right winger within Real Madrid’s first-team squad.
If and when Bale leaves the club, and it seems to be a matter of when right now, Florentino Perez could look to replace the Welshman with Ferran Torres, thus further proceeding with the same philosophy in the transfer market that saw Real Madrid bring in several young prospects like Alvaro Odriozola, Eder Militao, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Luka Jovic among others.
Torres currently has a €100 million release clause embedded in his contract, one that Valencia are looking to extend, with his current deal set to expire in 2021. The 19-year-old could find the allure of being a regular at a club like Real Madrid and competing for top honours too hard to resist, now that he has proven himself in La Liga over a period of time.
Whether Real Madrid decide to pursue Ferran Torres or not in the coming transfer window, the 19-year-old is a genuine target for the Spanish giants and they don’t look like giving up anytime soon.
