Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante has reaffirmed his desire to continue with the club, amid serious interest from French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.
In a recent interview, as reported by the Express, French World Cup winner N’Golo Kante has claimed that he is happy at Chelsea and intends to stay at the club, amid speculations linking him with a move to Ligue 1 champions PSG.
Kante has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the game since he arrived on English shores in 2015, joining Leicester City. Having played an integral role in the Foxes’ surprise Premier League triumph in 2015-16, the midfielder joined Chelsea the subsequent summer and has grown from strength to strength with the Blues.
During his stay at Stamford Bridge, Kante has racked up 142 appearances, scoring 8 goals and assisting 7 more, on his way to winning a Premier League title, an FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League. The 2018-19 season saw the 28-year-old diminutive midfielder feature 53 times across all competitions, bagging 5 goals.
Kante’s rise to the top in recent seasons has seen him attract a lot of interest from several big European clubs, with French champions PSG being chief among them.
PSG are looking to build a squad capable of taking them all the way in the Champions League and see the World Cup winner as a quality addition, despite having strengthened their midfield with the addition of Ander Herrera, Idrissa Gueye and Pablo Sarabia this summer.
Kante though, while admitting that the interest is flattering, has ruled out a transfer away from Chelsea as he feels happy and settled at the West London outfit. He said (as quoted by Express), “It’s rewarding to be wanted by big clubs, when coaches want you in their project it’s nice.”
“But I’m happy with my choices and feel good at Chelsea. I’m planning for the next season at Chelsea. I’m happy with my choices and to be in Chelsea. We all know what this competition [Champions League] represents for footballers. I had the chance to play in it once with Chelsea but alas, we were knocked out early. I hope we will have the chance to go further this season.”
Kante has been barely involved in Chelsea’s pre-season campaign under new boss Frank Lampard, with a knee injury keeping him out of action. But, he is integral to the manager’s plans heading into the new season. “Kante is one of the greatest midfielders in the world. My job is to get the best out of him. I know the quality that he has,” Lampard had said when he took the job.
Kante is contracted with Chelsea till 2023, having put pen to a new deal back in November last year. The 28-year-old is an extremely pivotal part of this Chelsea team and a move away from Stamford Bridge anytime soon is highly unlikely.
