Real Madrid are reportedly ready to launch a summer bid to prise the world’s most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga away from Chelsea.
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Real Madrid are ready to add another Chelsea star to their shopping list in the summer. Kepa Arrizabalaga could be set to bid Stamford Bridge adieu just a season into his stint at the club, with Los Blancos plotting a summer bid for the Spaniard.
Chelsea made Kepa the world’s most expensive goalkeeper in the saga that involved Thibaut Courtois moving to Real Madrid. The Spaniard has had big shoes to fill and the price tag has not helped either. Still, Kepa has recorded 12 clean sheets in the league and has been consistent to an extent in what is his maiden Premier League season.
But, his antics in the Carabao Cup final, the public disobedience of his manager’s orders and the subsequent inability to save a weak Sergio Aguero penalty is still fresh in everyone’s minds. According to earlier reports, the incident did not go down well with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who has decided to put Kepa on the list of players that could very well be on their way out of the club.
It will all depend on whether Chelsea can delay their ban or have it reversed. But, things might not be Chelsea’s to decide. Real Madrid have jumped into the race for Kepa.
Zinedine Zidane admitted that the Real Madrid goalkeeper conundrum will no longer be a thing to worry about in the summer, which points at potential sales and perhaps, a move for a new player as well. The manager has not really favoured Thibaut Courtois after returning to the helm at Real Madrid and even chose to field his son Luca Zidane in a league match recently.
Courtois has not enjoyed his first season at Real Madrid either. The blinders have not been enough to compensate for the blunders he has caused in goal and Zidane might be looking for a new reliable man between the posts. David de Gea has been strongly linked again.
But, there is hope in the Manchester United camp that de Gea will commit to a new deal, which could force Real Madrid to look elsewhere. Kepa was a target for the Spanish giants during the time that Zidane was the manager and the report states that he is ready to bring the Chelsea stopper back to Spain.
Kepa would cost less than de Gea and it would not be as tough to convince the club and the player to part ways. We could see the world’s most expensive goalkeeper on the move again, sooner than expected.
