Manchester United could have to cough up over €50 million to land Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is also a target for Bayern Munich.
According to a report by Germany publication Sport Bild, Chelsea would be willing to do business for Callum Hudson-Odoi if a suitor is prepared to pay over €50 million for him. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are among the clubs that are interested in signing the English international this summer.
Callum Hudson-Odoi has seen his future become a subject of intense speculation ever since the January transfer window. With regular game time hard to come by, the player has reportedly become frustrated at Chelsea, and had even submitted a transfer request for the club to grant him a move away from Stamford Bridge.
That he has already made his first start for the England national side before being granted his full debut for Chelsea makes it all the more understandable as to why he would be wanting to leave. His situation has unsurprisingly alerted a number of top clubs across Europe, with Manchester United and Bayern Munich among those that have been linked heavily.
Manchester United are the latest club to emerge in pursuit of Hudson-Odoi. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position as the full-time manager now confirmed, the Red Devils can set about working actively towards narrowing down their list of target, and the Chelsea forward is someone who could solve a long-standing problem.
While the teenage prodigy primarily operates from the left flank, he has shown that he could affect the proceedings just as adeptly from the right side of the attack. The right wing slot is precisely the one that has been the Achilles Heel for Manchester United in recent seasons, which explains why they are keen on signing Hudson-Odoi.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, were reportedly set to sign the player in the January transfer window before Chelsea pulled the plug late on. But, the Bundesliga champions have continued pursuing a move for the exciting prospect, owing to the ageing presence of Franck Ribery in the first-team squad.
With Arjen Robben set to leave in the summer, Alphonso Davies, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman will be the only wingers left in the squad, meaning the addition of Hudson-Odoi could complete the attacking department, at least as far as the wide men are concerned.
Bayern Munich though, are only prepared to offer €40 million to land the 18-year-old, which falls short of what Chelsea will demand for their young prodigy. The Blues will only be willing to do business for a price over €50 million, although it is unclear if either Manchester United or Bayern are fazed by the valuation.
Should United be prepared to shell out the aforementioned amount, it will also be interesting to see if Chelsea are ready to sell Hudson-Odoi to a direct rival. If they are not, Bayern Munich will fancy their chances of snapping up the English forward, and it remains to be seen where the players ends up in the summer.
