Arsenal are reportedly considering a bid worth £18 million to land Belgian international Yannick Ferreira Carrasco in the summer transfer window.
If a report by Daily Express is to be believed, Arsenal have reignited their interest in a player they were keen on signing in the January transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights are still in the market for Dalian Yifang superstar Yannick Carrasco, with a summer bid worth £18 million being lined up.
Yannick Carrasco took a strange decision to leave Atletico Madrid for the riches of Chinese Super League to join Dalian Yifang, a decision that players have usually taken in the twilight of their careers. Nevertheless, the move to the Far East has worked out well so far for the player, who has become a key figure at the club.
Carrasco has started the new season strongly as well, netting the late equaliser in Dalian Yifang’s first game of the campaign. But, as per reports ever since the January transfer window, it is believed that the 25-year-old is eager to return to Europe, with Arsenal being linked with them heavily.
Arsenal were among the clubs who were keen on signing the Belgian international in the winter before a move failed to materialize. But, the continued interest in the player makes sense, with the Gunners bereft of a natural winger in Unai Emery’s squad.
In fact, this lack of wingers has seen several players being played out of position, something the Arsenal boss is looking to address in the summer transfer window. But, the report suggests that a move for Carrasco depends on whether the North Londoners exercise their option to sign Denis Suarez, who joined on loan from Barcelona in January.
Another bone of contention in Arsenal’s pursuit of the Belgian international is the fact that he pockets £8.8 million a year at Dalian Yifang, a wage packet that the Premier League bigwigs are unwilling to match. So, in order to land Carrasco, they will have to convince him to take a reduced salary.
Meanwhile, AC Milan, who were also linked with the player in January, and Inter Milan are also providing stiff competition to Arsenal in pursuit of the 25-year-old. For now, it looks like a bid worth £18 million is on the cards from the Gunners, and it remains to be seen if they are able to land Yannick Carrasco in the summer.
