Arsenal have reportedly approached Hirving Lozano over a potential move this summer, with the PSV Eindhoven forward also a target for Barcelona
According to a report by TransferMarketWeb, Hirving Lozano is the subject of interest from Arsenal, who have already been busy in the summer transfer window. The Gunners are set to provide stiff competition to Barcelona in pursuit of the PSV Eindhoven winger.
Lozano is the pearl of Mexican football at the moment, having established himself as a pivotal figure for the national side while also growing in stature within Europe. The player joined PSV Eindhoven from boyhood club Pachuca last summer and instantly established himself as a key figure.
The subsequent campaign saw him play a starring role as PSV reclaimed the Eredivisie title, with an impressive record of 19 goals and 11 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. With the 22-year-old continuing his stellar form at the World Cup for Mexico, his stock has skyrocketed, with Arsenal and Barcelona now in his pursuit.
At Arsenal, there is a shortage of natural wingers, since the departure of Alexis Sanchez with the likes of Danny Welbeck, Alex Iwobi, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being deployed in the wide areas instead. Lozano would thus, be a viable target for the Gunners, who could have a strong presence out wide in the Mexican.
Barcelona, on the other hand, do have Ousmane Dembele. But, the Frenchman operates primarily on the right flank, with Philippe Coutinho the only option to play on the opposite side. With the Brazilian likely to be deployed in midfield, there could be a shortage of wide players next season, which Lozano would be able to solve.
The Mexican international will certainly not come cheap, with his deal at PSV still having five more years to run. But, Arsenal have already made an approach for the 22-year-old, and could take steps to make him their fourth summer signing. Barcelona, too, are in the mix and are expected to make a move for him, with the Blaugrana having Champions League football on offer.
The race to sign Lozano is certainly heating up, and it looks likely that his stint at PSV will come to an end after just one season. It will be interesting to see if he joins Arsenal, or if Barcelona swoop him away instead.
