Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante is on reportedly the radar of Paris Saint-Germain, who plan to make a bid for the midfielder again this summer.
According to a report by a French outlet Paris United, PSG are aiming to land the N’Golo Kante from Chelsea, and are planning to make an offer for the defensive midfielder, for the third time since 2016. Thomas Tuchel is eager to reinforce his midfield to pursue a successful Champions League campaign next season.
N’Golo Kante joined Chelsea after a £35 million move from Leicester City in the summer of 2016, he made an immediate impact at his new club, with his work-rate and pace helping him play a crucial role in the Blues’ Premier League triumph in 2016-17, while also winning the PFA Player of the Year that season.
His presence in midfield has been very significant, with the player averaging 2.5 interceptions per game, after making 34 appearances in the league last season, delivering the goods consistently. But Chelsea’s underwhelming position at the end of the season could make up Kante’s mind, with the Blues set to miss out on Champions League football next season.
Therefore, his agent Karim Douis is reportedly pushing for a possible move away from Stamford Bridge, which has piqued the interest of PSG, who are looking for a defensive midfielder after Thiago Motta retired at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Although Tuchel is also showing interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl, who he coached during his Bundesliga days, Kante seems to be the priority target. But, Les Parisiens will need to move in quickly, with Real Madrid also showing interest in the Chelsea superstar, as they seek to add competition for Casemiro in the destroyer role.
PSG do seem to be at a more advanced stage as Karim Douis is said to have met Sporting Director Antero Henrique several times, both in London and Paris in a span of few weeks. What strengthens their position is the fact that Chelsea have not closed their doors for Kante’s exit, and will consider any offer over €80 million.
Adding to it, the new Chelsea manager could also be interested in reconstructing his midfield, which may see Kante be allowed to move. Should they sign either Amadou Diawara from Napoli or Jean-Michael Seri from Nice, the Frenchman’s departure could just happen.
Right now, it is unlikely that the move will happen till July, with Kante already in Russia to start his maiden World Cup campaign. Chances of Kante leaving Chelsea are still very unclear, as he preferred to remain in the Premier League instead of going back to Ligue 1 in 2016.
But now, amid his agent’s influence, who is very much in favour of a move, and the absence of Champions League nights at Chelsea, a transfer to PSG could be a possibility in the summer transfer window.
