Chelsea have reportedly earmarked attack as one of the areas to strengthen this summer, with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski a priority target.
According to an exclusive report from The Telegraph, Robert Lewandowski could be heading to the Premier League this summer. The Bayern Munich star had been reportedly keen on a move to Real Madrid. But, Chelsea have now made the Polish international a prime target for the summer, with the Blues prioritising reinforcements in attack.
Alvaro Morata hit the ground running but failed to maintain momentum. The Spaniard has now lost his place upfront as the first-choice striker to January arrival Olivier Giroud along with being snubbed by Spain manager Julen Lopetegui for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The former Real Madrid man has been tipped to be on his way out, as has been Antonio Conte, with the manager continuously at a war of words with the Board over transfer shortcomings. Even if either, or both, end up staying, Chelsea will need a quality striker to restore Champions League football and a top-four place, but the tag of a genuine title contender as well.

That Robert Lewandowski has bossed the Bundesliga for more than half-a decade is an understatement. The Real Madrid target has finished as the Top scorer of the aforementioned league in six seasons. But, it is at Bayern Munich where has reached new heights, averaging close to a goal a game over the past three league campaigns.
195 appearances, 151 goals, 4 league titles and a total of 7 trophies at Bayern Munich, the Polish international is finally looking for a new challenge and a new league to dominate. Real Madrid have been knocking on the doors for a while and there have been reports that the striker has communicated his desire to move to the Bernabeu to his agent.
But, Chelsea’s entry might complicate things for Real Madrid. The Blues endured a difficult domestic campaign in a bid to defend their 2016-17 Premier League title, finishing fifth, 30 points behind the newly crowned champions Manchester City. That the Blues won the FA Cup over Manchester United saved their season to an extent, but the inability to qualify for the Champions League will be a hard pill to swallow.
There are questions over Antonio Conte’s future. But, regardless of whether the Italian stays, a quality striker is needed. With Lewandowski in the form that he has been for 3 seasons now, there are not any other ‘available’ options better than the Bayern Munich frontman.
Chelsea’s inability to offer Champions League football might be a hinderance in their pursuit to convince Lewandowski to snub Real Madrid. But, the riches of the Premier League might just be enough of a lure for the Polish international.
Although, with Lewandowski already 29, this might just represent the Polish international’s last few years to get prestigious titles under his belt, before the striker is likely to look towards getting a lucrative final paycheck.
At Real Madrid, he can have the best of both – a more than fair paycheck along with the chance of winning trophies, a situation that cannot be reflected upon Chelsea for now, despite the Blues winning the FA Cup.
Lewandowski would want to weigh his options and wait till things become clearer. The Bayern Munich striker seems destined to be on the move in the summer, but Chelsea have their work cut out if they intend to bring the Polish international over to the Bridge.
