Manchester United have reportedly submitted an enquiry to Chelsea to scour the possibility of landing Willian in the January transfer window.
According to Daily Mail, Willian could be set for a January reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho. Manchester United have now reportedly submitted an enquiry to Chelsea for the Brazilian, who has been struggling to get regular game time under his belt.
Willian’s status at Stamford Bridge has been under question since the arrival of Antonio Conte. However, the present season has seen a further deterioration in his game time, which has only improved in the last couple of matches.
The improvement could also be chalked down to injuries and a dip in form of their star striker Alvaro Morata, which has seen Conte deploy Eden Hazard in the False Nine role.
The Brazilian has often been criticised in recent times for his lack of drive and output on the pitch, which has led to several rumours linking the player to a January exit from the club. Chelsea, too, have been rumoured to be looking to bring in compatriot Lucas Moura as Willian’s replacement at the Bridge.
However, Chelsea’s loss, although intended, could be Manchester United’s gain. The Red Devils have already taken in Nemanja Matic from Chelsea in the summer transfer window – a move that saw a wide range of ridicule being aimed at Chelsea by fans and pundits alike.

Willian could become another such story, with Manchester United submitting an enquiry for the Brazilian. Jose Mourinho failed to reinforce his wide attack in the summer and has lamented on the same a few times as well in some of his press conferences.
The Red Devils are looking to correct their summer transfer window mistake in January and Mourinho seems to have found a realistic target in Willian. The player has been shy of regular minutes in the league and could do with a move, especially with the World Cup right around the corner.
But, according to the report, Chelsea do not wish to sell unless they receive an irresistible offer. Conte is well aware of the fact that his squad is thin and is looking to only add to his options in the January transfer window.
The Blues would not want to directly strengthen their rivals either, especially after the Matic scenario. Willian might be interested in a reunion with Mourinho, but is unlikely to force Chelsea’s hand.
This looks like a potential transfer that could end up in a stalemate unless Manchester United tempt Chelsea with an extraordinary offer or the Blues soften their stance on selling players in January.
