Transfer Rumour: Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski keen on Real Madrid move amid Manchester City interest

Disgruntled Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is keen on making the switch to Real Madrid amid interest from Manchester City as well.

Spanish publication AS have reported that Robert Lewandowski has set his sights on making a dream move to Real Madrid in the wake of his comments questioning Bayern Munich’s ambition. The Polish striker is also attracting interest from Manchester City, as per a report by Daily Mirror.

Lewandowski is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, having been one of the biggest prolific powerhouses of the game for several years. Already considered world class during his time at Borussia Dortmund, the Pole has evolved into a truly feared striker following his move to Bayern Munich.

Since his switch to the Allianz Arena in the summer of 2014, Lewandowski has made almost one direct contribution to a goal per game, finding the back of the net 119 times as well as providing 30 assists in 154 appearances.

The 29-year-old has started the 2017-18 season with a bang as well, with 9 goals in just 7 appearances in all competitions. However, trouble seems to be brewing in the paradise, with the player recently making comments questioning the Bavarians’ ambition.

While he still continues to be the main goalscoring threat of Bayern, the aforementioned comments have put his future at the club under a cloud. As per the report by AS, Lewandowski seems to be already thinking about life after Bayern, with his agent working on brokering a dream move to Real Madrid.

At the Bernabeu, Zinedine Zidane has made it known on several occasions that he would have liked to sign a striker this past summer. With Karim Benzema struggling at the start of the season as well, the need to sign a striker seems to have accentuated, making Lewandowski an ideal target to consider.

However, as per the report, Los Blancos are not interested in the Poland interntional due to their policy of not recruiting players aged 30 or over. Instead, they are likely to seek a move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, who still has his best years ahead of him.

Real Madrid’s reluctance to make a move for Lewandowski, though, could clear the path for Manchester City to pursue a deal for him. The player enjoyed three of his most fruitful campaigns under Pep Guardiola, when the Spaniard was still in charge at Bayern, and is believed to be open to a move to Etihad as well.

City are, thus, set to make a move for the Pole in the winter transfer window. With complications in the pursuit of Alexis Sanchez, Lewandowski could also be a viable alternative to the Chilean with his deadly eye for goal.

It now remains to be seen if Guardiola indeed sanctions a winter move for the player, and if Real Madrid decide to look past their aforementioned policy to pursue him as well. For now though, Lewandowski seems to be walking on thin ice at Bayern, even as he continues to be their most potent threat.
