Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a world record offer in their bid to land Eden Hazard from Chelsea in the summer.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Real Madrid are preparing to table a world record bid to Chelsea in order to prise Eden Hazard away from Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Hazard is enjoying a terrific campaign with Chelsea, as he has rediscovered his best form following a lull in 2015/16 during Chelsea’s disastrous defence of the Premier League title. This season, though, the Blues have romped back to the top of English football, and Hazard been at the centre of their dominance.
Antonio Conte has employed a 3-4-3 formation at Stamford Bridge this season, and the change in system has played a key role in Hazard becoming Chelsea’s talisman as he has been afforded a lot of freedom in the final third, without having to worry much about defensive workload.
As a result, Hazard looks primed to end 2016/17 with his best ever tally of goals, having found the back of the net 11 times in 26 Premier League matches, in addition to 4 assists.
This success has also attracted the attention of Real Madrid, where Zinedine Zidane retains a keen interest in signing Hazard. In fact, the Frenchman is believed to be the driving force behind Los Blancos’ attempts at bringing the Belgian international to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Indeed, an attacking trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale has the potential to become the most potent front three in the world, standing toe to toe with their counterparts at Barcelona.
In fact, Hazard’s possible acquisition will also allow Zidane to deploy Ronaldo in a more central role to extract the best out of the Portuguese superstar, with the 26-year-old bringing more directness from the left flank.
The Spanish giants are, thus, willing to try everything they can in order to land Hazard in the summer. There have been rumours of a possible swap deal involving Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez, and the latest report claims that a world record bid could be in the offing.
The Daily Mail, in fact, claim that Real Madrid could become the first club to break the £100 million barrier in order to test Chelsea’s resolve in the summer. However, it is also believed the Chelsea have no intention of selling their talisman, with Conte claiming he ‘had no price’.
Hazard, on his part, is well aware of Real Madrid’s interest in him, but will not be pushing for a move, thus making the Spanish club’s job all the more difficult. Chelsea, too, could enter discussions with the winger over a new deal in order to strengthen their position.
Real Madrid, though, are willing to do all that they can to sign Hazard come June, and it remains to be seen how far they can stretch their resources to prise him away from Chelsea.
