Transfer News: Arsenal plan £85 million bid to rival Manchester United for Antoine Griezmann

Arsenal are reportedly ready to stump up £85 million in order to challenge Manchester United for Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann.

Daily Mail are claiming that Arsenal are ready to challenge Manchester United in the race to sign Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann. Inter Milan have also been credited with serious interest in Griezmann recently and it seems the Red Devils will not have a clear run in on the French attacking sensation.

Antoine Griezmann is a very hot property in the footballing world right now. The 25-year-old recently proved his mettle on the international stage by grabbing the Golden Boot award at Euro 2016. The Frenchman seems to be at the best stage of his career and perhaps, with an even better vein of form still to come.

And there are no dearth of suitors for the French superstar. Manchester United seemed the favourites for Griezmann, with the Red Devils able to provide the riches along with the prospect of playing with Paul Pogba at club level, something the Frenchman has stated as one of his wishes.

But, Inter Milan has been recently credited with an interest in Griezmann, with the newfound riches under a new majority shareholder, who is eyeing a deal for the Frenchman as a major scalp in the summer. Also, Diego Simeone’s links with Inter Milan may influence Griezmann’s decision if El Cholo is to return to San Siro in the near future.

And now, Arsenal have joined the race for the Frenchman. Wenger is already in troubled waters in renewal talks with Alexis Sanchez and Griezmann would not only serve as a replacement but perhaps an upgrade, of sorts. As per the report, Wenger is ready to stump up £85 million in the summer to land Griezmann.

The fee would not only shatter the club transfer fee record by almost twice as much but also prove that Wenger is willing to spend big if the right player is available for the taking. Arsenal did have a bid knocked back for Griezmann last summer with the Frenchman signing a new deal back then, one that runs till 2021.

Griezmann has a release clause stationed at the £110 million mark but Arsenal would hope a bid of around £85 million would be enough to convince Atletico Madrid in consider a transfer for Griezmann. Also, Arsenal, in Alexis Sanchez, have a player that interests Los Rojiblancos.

Arsenal have been having problems with Alexis Sanchez in talks for the Chilean’s contract renewal and perhaps, they could involve Sanchez in a deal, which would hand Wenger an advantage over the other suitors, with Alexis also serving as a ready replacement for Griezmann.

Arsenal’s entry into Griezmann chase could make it more interesting and it would be intriguing to see which team is able to snap Griezmann up. But, one thing is becoming more and more certain, that is Griezmann’s impending departure from the Spanish capital.
