Transfer News: Luke Shaw’s agent rules out Manchester United exit

Luke Shaw’s agent has ruled out a move away from Old Trafford for his client

According to Sky Sports, Shaw’s agent Jonathan Barnett has insisted that his client will not be leaving Old Trafford. Shaw has been linked with a move away from the club after struggling for game time under Jose Mourinho.

Reports emerged earlier this week that United were willing to let Shaw go, with Jose Mourinho said to be frustrated at his lack of progress since his return from a horrific double fracture. Mourinho has publicly criticised Shaw on several occasions this season, and it appears the England international is firmly out of favour at Old Trafford.

Despite this, Barnett insists his client is happy at Old Trafford and that Manchester United are also happy with Shaw: “He is happy at the club. Manchester United are very happy with him and he’s very happy at Manchester United,” Barnett said.

Shaw missed almost an entire year after his injury after a challenge by PSV’s Hector Moreno during the Red Devils’ Champions League fixture against the Dutch side in September 2015. He missed a total of 51 games for United and there is no doubt that the injury halted his progress.

This season, Shaw has only made 13 appearances across all competitions in the season, one of which came as a substitute. He has only managed 6 starts in the league thus far, although he has been nursing a groin injury for the last few weeks.

Chelsea were said to be keeping tabs on Shaw’s situation as Antonio Conte looked for reinforcements at left wing-back. Shaw came close to joining Chelsea a couple of years ago while Jose Mourinho was manager.
Tottenham are also keeping tabs on his situation given that Danny Rose is now a target for many big clubs – most notably Manchester United. Spurs have been trying to recruit English players over the last few seasons and Shaw is sure to be a target for them should he become available.
However, it now appears that he is set to stay at Old Trafford – at least for the time being – if his agent is to be believed. Should his lack of playing time continue, however, things could quickly change.
