Chelsea striker Diego Costa is set to offered an improved deal on his current contract, thanks to his season-defining performances for the club, that would see him earn a bumper pay rise at Stamford Bridge.
Diego Costa is a reformed man at Stamford Bridge this season. The aggressive, quarrelsome striker is nowhere to be found, and in his place has come a man who is defined by his single minded focus on his game as the leader of the Chelsea attack. That has seen him stay far away from the controversies, while steadily rising up the Premier League goal-scoring charts.
English media outlet Daily Mail have now reported that his impressive displays for Antonio Conte’s side this season are set to earn him a lucrative new deal that puts him in line for a bumper pay rise. Costa currently earns £150,000 a week at Stamford Bridge.
Mail have, however, reported that Chelsea are interested in rewarding Costa with a two-year extension on his current deal, that is set to expire in 2019. It is believed that the the offer on the table will be a significant improvement on his current deal, meaning a massive upgrade on his earnings at the club, should he agree to the terms of the deal.
Prior to the start of the season, several reports stated that Costa was on the verge of leaving Chelsea with a move back to former club Atletico Madrid being on the cards. However, under new manager Antonio Conte, he has resurrected his Chelsea career and is seemingly far happier at Stamford Bridge, thereby ending any talks of a move away from the club.
Turning in influential displays as the spearhead of the Chelsea attack, Costa has scored a league-high 13 goals so far, which has seen the Blues being propelled to the top of the Premier League table. His impact for his team was on display yet again last week as scored the only goal of the match to earn a close win against Crystal Palace to extend Chelsea’s winning streak to 11 games.
However, he will be forced to miss his first league game for the club on Matchday 18, after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, much to the dismay of Chelsea fans. Costa and the Chelsea fans, though, will be delighted at the prospect of the explosive striker signing a new deal with the Blues.
