Riyad Mahrez’s excellent season with Leicester City earned him deserved recognition on Sunday, as he became the first African to win the Premier League’s PFA Player of the Year award.
The Algerian winger has now scored 17 goals and registered 11 assists, with Leicester en route to a historic Premier League title triumph. The £400,000 purchase from Ligue 2 side Le Havre has proven to be a menace to defenders with his skill and pace and is now being linked to some of the top clubs in Europe.
However, even as he received his first major accolade, he remained humble, saying that although he was the first African Player of the Year, he was not the best.
Here is a video of Mahrez speaking about receiving the honour.
