Chelsea Player and German Captain of yesteryear, Michael Ballack in an interview to the Guardian as said that his former club are “one or two big players short” to become a dominant force in Europe.
Ballack was quoted saying in the interview: “They are probably one or two big players short of where they want to be. If they bring in or develop one or two players with this talent, this attitude, this personality on the pitch, they will get back to the top in terms of European football and competing properly to win the Champions League again.”
Ballack said that he felt Chelsea are still a work in progress and the game against PSG exposed the need for one or two big players to help the likes of Matic in the midfield.
Chelsea are linked with moves for forwards Falcao, Icardi, and Benteke across newspapers in England and Italy. However, with Ballack suggesting that they need one or two big players in the midfield, it will be interesting to see if Roman Abramovic and Jose Mourinho decide to go for Arturo Vidal who is rumored to be available. Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Koke, but, the player has reiterated his desire to stay with his hometown club.

Vidal appears to be a perfect fit in the Chelsea midfield alongside Matic and Fabregas as he can play a proper box to box role complimenting Fabregas’ attacking and Matic’s defensive instinct.
