Chelsea FC have had a bid for Napoli’s left-back Faouzi Ghoulam rejected.
According to the Daily Express, Chelsea have seen their A?11 million offer for Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam turned down.
The 24 year-old impressed for the Naples outfit last season and played 34 matches in all competitions.
Chelsea have Cesar Azpilicueta and Filipe Luis as the two left-backs but with the latter’s future unsure at Stamford Bridge, it makes sense that the club is looking for alternatives to back-up first choice Azpilicueta. Luis’s transfer was met with a lot of optimism last summer but the Brazilian has made little little impact after arriving from Atletico Madrid last summer. The 29-year-old only started nine games, and is is not strange that he feels unsure about his future at the club.
“Ita s difficult to talk about my future because I do not really know what will happen,a Luis told reporters after Brazila s 1-0 win over Honduras.
a I have a contract with Chelsea and I belong to the club, so ita s up to them.”
Napoli signed Ghoulam from Saint-Etienne in January 2014, and are aware of several clubs’ interest in the Algerian international. The Italian side is unwilling to let go of the talented player.
It definitely isn’t gloomy for Mourinho though as according to the Daily Express, the Blues are close to sealing a deal for former Arsenal star and current Barcelona man Alex Song.
The Cameroon international spent the season on loan at West Ham and as expected, performed very well. Arsenal and Liverpool were both reported to be interested in signing the player but it seems that Chelsea are the side who will be sealing the move soon for the 27 year-old. The defensive midfielder has two years left on his current deal at Barcelona. Chelsea are expected to sign him for around A?6 million.
With John Obi Mikel linked to a move away from the London side, Chelsea are eyeing Song as the ideal cover for Nemanja Matic. The Blues will be looking to defend the Premier League trophy next season along with doing well in other competitions, especially the Champions League, and the need to have a strong squad, not just a starting 11, cannot be overstated. In Alex Song, Mourinho will definitely get a solid back-up player who has the experience of playing at the top level
