Atletico Madrid eyeing bargain move for Mohamed Salah

Atletico Madrid are exploring an ambitious move to sign Mohamed Salah on a free transfer, with the Spanish giants keen to capitalise on the Egyptian’s availability following his departure from Liverpool.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Atletico Madrid have identified Salah as a marquee addition who could strengthen their attack without a substantial transfer fee.

While the veteran forward would command significant wages, Atletico believe the opportunity to land one of world football’s biggest stars as a free agent represents excellent value in the current market.

Salah recently brought an end to his spell at Liverpool. During his time with the Reds, the Egypt international established himself as one of the club’s greatest-ever players, helping Liverpool win multiple major trophies while consistently producing outstanding goalscoring numbers, cementing his status as a Liverpool legend. His departure has inevitably sparked widespread speculation over his next destination.

Salah is a player in demand this summer

Saudi Pro League clubs have long been linked with the 34-year-old, while several European clubs have tracked his availability. However, Atletico Madrid now appear eager to position themselves as serious contenders for his signature, believing the chance to continue competing at the highest level in European football could appeal to the winger.

Simeone is believed to value Salah’s experience, leadership and winning mentality, qualities that could prove invaluable in a squad aiming to challenge both domestically and in Europe. Even in the latter stages of his career, the veteran attacker remains one of the game’s most dangerous attacking players thanks to his pace, intelligent movement and clinical finishing.

A move to the Spanish capital would also offer Salah a fresh challenge after spending successful spells in Switzerland, England and Italy. Although his previous stint in the Premier League with Chelsea failed to live up to expectations, he rebuilt his reputation at Roma before becoming a Liverpool legend.

Whether Atletico Madrid can persuade Salah to choose La Liga over the lucrative offers expected from Saudi Arabia remains to be seen. Saudi offers will likely exceed Atletico’s wage capacity, though competing in elite European competition under Simeone may offer an alternative appeal.

As things stand, no agreement has been reached, and negotiations are yet to progress significantly. Nevertheless, Atletico Madrid’s interest highlights the club’s determination to strengthen their squad with proven world-class quality.
