Manchester United and Aston Villa are the most serious suitors in the race to sign Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries.
According to a report from L’Interista, Denzel Dumfries could be heading to the Premier League this summer as Manchester United and Aston Villa are keen on acquiring his services. While other top clubs have been linked with the Dutch full-back, the Premier League duo are the most serious suitors.
Dumfries made a name for himself at PSV Eindhoven, and on the back of his impressive performances, he earned a move to Inter Milan in the summer of 2021. The 30-year-old hasn’t looked back since. He has been a consistent performer for both club and country over the years.
While he is primarily used as a wing-back, he is equally effective on both ends of the pitch, making him an ideal fit for a full-back role. The Dutch international has been involved in 202 matches for Inter and has contributed towards 54 goals.
He has everything a modern manager wants in a full-back, and his consistent performances have attracted a lot of interest over the years. He has only made 23 appearances this term, as an ankle injury kept him on the sidelines for weeks.
He is back fit and is already showcasing how important he is to their setup with impressive performances week in and week out. He bagged a brace against Como and followed it up with an assist against Cagliari last time out. Apart from a strong defensive base, he is certainly a big threat going forward.
Thanks to his incredible performances since his return from injury, Inter Milan have already offered him a new deal as they want to ensure he continues at the club. While his current deal runs until the summer of 2028, there is a €25 million release clause, which is causing anxiety at Inter.
Premier League duo are after Dumfries
They are looking to remove the clause by offering him a new deal with improved terms. They are ready to increase his salary to €5 million net per season. Without a renewal, his departure is almost certain as clubs like Manchester United and Aston Villa won’t think twice before triggering his release.
United seek more quality on the right flank, and with Noussair Mazraoui’s future uncertain, Dumfries could take his place in their squad. Meanwhile, Unai Emery wants more competition for his preferred right-back, Matty Cash.
Both clubs believe Dumfries could help them take the next step. There is a bargain clause in his contract, and the player is also interested in a move to the Premier League. As a result, they do have a realistic chance of signing him. While there is interest from other clubs, United and Villa are the ones who have concrete interest.
