Newcastle United are interested in a move for Goncalo Ramos, as Eddie Howe could look to bring in a striker in the upcoming window.
Newcastle United could angle a move for a new striker despite their heavy outlay last summer. Goncalo Ramos is among those considered for a move ahead of the summer, with a report in Fichajes insisting the 24-year-old attacker from PSG is a certain target.
Eddie Howe has begun planning on making some key additions to his squad ahead of the summer. There are rumours of some of their key starters moving away from the club, but the prime focus is on incomings, especially a new striker.
The fact that Newcastle United invested heavily last summer in the anticipation and aftermath of the Alexander Isak saga — the club paid big money to bring in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa — has not quite paid off. Neither striker has worked out, the latter more so, and there could be a need for a new centre-forward ahead of the close season.
PSG’s Goncalo Ramos has been mentioned as a target, with suggestions that he could be tempted with a key role at one of the big English sides. Newcastle United are nowhere close to the stature of the other big Premier League teams, but they can put together a squad worthy enough to challenge for a top-four place.
Ramos is not alone on their list, as Sporting CP’s Luis Suarez was mentioned, and so was former Liverpool man Darwin Nunez. However, the prospect of signing the 24-year-old attacker might tempt Howe into considering a bid for the Portuguese forward, as much will depend on PSG’s stance as well as the price attached to any transfer.
Will PSG sell Goncalo Ramos?
The fact that Ramos boasts healthy numbers despite only being a secondary choice for the No. 9 role under Luis Enrique places far greater emphasis on PSG keeping him around. The striker has once again hit double figures in terms of goals for the Parisians, which has attracted many top clubs towards exploring a summer move.
PSG paid a hefty sum for him a few years back when signing the attacker from Benfica, and will expect a return on their investment. Newcastle United are in a position to pay big for one of their key targets, and it might well be the striker they are coveting — although in the Ramos chase, they need a massive pitch to convince the striker, especially without Champions League football next season.
