Tottenham in transfer tussle to sign Benjamin Nygren

Tottenham are in a transfer tussle with at least four more teams for winger Benjamin Nygren, with Celtic anticipating a record sale.

Tottenham are expected to remain active in the next transfer window, especially if they avoid relegation. Among the several positions they plan to strengthen, a winger is on the agenda, and, according to Sports Boom, Spurs are part of a five-way battle for Celtic attacker Benjamin Nygren.

Benjamin Nygren is turning heads in Scotland and around the continent owing to his performances for Celtic this season. With 19 goals and 8 assists across all competitions, the Swedish international is certainly keeping the Glasgow giants in an exciting title race in the Scottish Premiership.

However, having only joined the Scottish giants last summer, Nygren’s stay might be short-lived, as Celtic could be angling to make a record sale of the winger. The Premiership side are anticipating offers starting from €30 million, with add-ons and bonuses separate, that could see them make a record sale as well as a massive profit on their €1.5 million investment.

There are quite a few teams interested, with Tottenham probably the most high-profile suitor. Spurs are in the market to improve several of their positions on the pitch, with the wide areas one of the main zones they want to strengthen in. Much of their activity, particularly the choice of transfer targets, will depend on their ability to avoid relegation, as they will target a move for Nygren if that is the case.

Spurs are also in a position to pay decently, as well as hand the £15,000–£20,000-a-week Celtic star an improved deal that could see him triple or quadruple his current earnings. However, there is big competition in place, with as many as four more clubs vying for Nygren, although Tottenham are well positioned to financially muscle the others if they are serious about the Swedish international.

Which clubs are chasing Benjamin Nygren?

Apart from Tottenham, there are four more teams in the mix, making it a five-way battle for Nygren’s signature. Spurs are not alone from England, with Brighton and Bournemouth also in the mix, with those teams viewing the Celtic star as someone with a high ceiling and massive future resale value.

The same could be said about Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille and Spanish club Valencia, with those sides keen to make a sizeable investment in a player like Nygren. On paper, Spurs are probably the most high-profile suitor among the five, while financially, they could prove far more attractive in this race for the Celtic star.
