Arsenal will reportedly attempt to seal a Bosman move for 26-year-old Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza in the summer transfer window.
French journalist Sebastien Vidal has revealed that versatile Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza is the subject of interest from Arsenal. Ahead of the 2026/27 season, the Gunners are eager to bolster their defensive unit by signing a right-back who can also reprise other roles.
The latest update has suggested that the Premier League table-toppers are “positioning themselves” for the Spaniard and that they are “ready to step up on this file” in the coming weeks. Mingueza is certain to leave Celta Vigo as a free agent, and a move to the Premier League may be on the cards.
Oscar Mingueza and his rise at Celta Vigo
Oscar Mingueza has landed on his feet since joining Celta Vigo from Barcelona in a Bosman move in July 2022. While the versatile defender showed flashes of brilliance after breaking into the first-team squad at the Catalan club, his stock gradually fell in his final season. However, the 26-year-old has resurrected his stuttering fortunes in the last four seasons.
Mingueza has made nearly 150 appearances thus far for the Galician outfit while chipping in with seven goals and 15 assists. However, the Spanish defender’s long-term future is uncertain, as he has entered the final six months of his contract with Celta Vigo. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Arsenal among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
London calling?
Arsenal’s interest in Oscar Mingueza makes sense. The Gunners are scouring the market for a right-back who can also play as a centre-back amid uncertainties surrounding Ben White’s long-term future. Recent reports have claimed that a summer move away from Arsenal is on the cards for White, with several high-profile clubs considering a bargain deal.
Several candidates, including Vanderson, have thus emerged on Arsenal’s wishlist, with Mingueza also a viable target. The 26-year-old Spaniard is particularly an enticing target, as, like White, he can play as a centre-back and a right-back. Additionally, he fits Mikel Arteta’s mould of defence-first full-backs while retaining the ability to make a mark in the final third.
However, Arsenal may not be alone in the battle for Mingueza’s signature, as recent reports have linked him with several Premier League clubs. So, the Spanish defender’s decision should come down to what he prioritises.
