Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea have revived their interest in the services of Barcelona midfield sensation Marc Casado.
Marc Casado could end up parting ways with Barcelona in the upcoming transfer window. The Spanish international isn’t getting enough game time under Hansi Flick. As a result, he is ready to push for a move away, and according to a report from Fichajes, Chelsea are ready to make the most out of it.
The Blues are set to reignite their pursuit of the 22-year-old defensive midfielder, who has come up the ranks at the Catalan club. He joined Barcelona back in 2016 and went up the ranks at some pace. Casado was promoted to the first team in 2024.
He had quite an impressive debut campaign, as an injury crisis in the centre of the park meant the 22-year-old was involved in 36 matches, and he even contributed towards seven goals. The young defensive midfielder racked up close to 2,500 minutes.
Not only was he great with cutting passing lanes and winning back the ball, but the Barcelona graduate also showcased elite ball-playing abilities. However, those performances haven’t helped him have a prominent role this time around.
We are already in the final phase of the season, and he has racked up fewer than 1,300 minutes in his 29 outings. The 22-year-old is frustrated by the lack of minutes, and he could end up pushing for an exit in the upcoming transfer window.
Chelsea are keen on Casado’s signature
Chelsea have emerged as a potential destination for Casado. With Romeo Lavia struggling to stay fit, the Blues do seek more quality and depth in the centre of the park. The La Masia graduate can certainly help their cause, and he is a perfect fit for the Blues’ project that revolves around signing the best young stars.
The London club have a long-standing interest in the 22-year-old. He was on their wishlist last summer as well, but Casado chose to continue at Barcelona. While they failed to sign him last time out, the Blues are back trying their luck to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
This time around, the youngster could actually look for a move in search of a more prominent role. Chelsea have been put on high alert, and they certainly want to make the most out of it. Not only can Casado replace Lavia, but he could also be an ideal cover for someone like Moises Caicedo.
He has a strong physical presence and great technical abilities, which suggest adjusting to life in the Premier League won’t be that big of a problem for him. He is currently valued at around €26 million, a figure that is well within Chelsea’s capabilities.
Meanwhile, his departure could free up some space on their wage bill, and it could also bring in a decent fee. Since he is an academy graduate, funds raised from his sale will be listed as pure profit.
