Arsenal are ready to step up their interest in Como defensive hotshot Jacobo Ramon, while facing competition and the looming threat of Real Madrid.
Jacobo Ramon is widely expected to be a name ringing around transfer stories ahead of the summer, as Arsenal are now ready to accelerate a move for the Como defender. As per Fichajes, the Gunners are eager to sign the 21-year-old Serie A defender, but face competition from domestic rivals as well as the significant threat posed by Real Madrid.
Arsenal are moving differently than they have been known to before, as last summer showcased a different approach in the transfer window. The presence of sporting director Andrea Berta has been advantageous for the Gunners, who have been aggressive enough to challenge many of their rivals for key targets.
Manager Mikel Arteta has one of the most formidable defensive setups in world football, and yet he is eager to keep adding some of the best talents from around the globe. Last summer, they signed young Spanish defender Cristhian Mosquera, and now they are ready to repeat the trick by chasing compatriot Jacobo Ramon.
Whether the Gunners realistically need another central defender is up for debate, but they might sense a market opportunity of sorts — albeit a slim one — with Ramon. The 21-year-old has impressed with his performances in his first-ever full season at the top level and is developing rather rapidly under Cesc Fabregas at Como, who now values the defender at €25 million as per the report.
With 26 Serie A appearances to his name, Fabregas took a big bet on the young Spaniard, who had previously featured six times for Real Madrid. Arsenal are ready to accelerate their pursuit, but they are not alone, as the likes of Aston Villa are also in the mix, and so are Chelsea. Both clubs could realistically offer a key place in the starting lineup — unlike Arteta’s side — which could give them a slight advantage of sorts.
How Are Real Madrid Involved in the Jacobo Ramon Saga?
Chelsea also holds a strong interest, with the club seeking a new defender in the close season, although the Blues and Aston Villa are now expected to watch how Arsenal negotiate a deal for the 21-year-old. The Gunners not only face domestic competition for the Como defender but also the significant threat posed by Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have done some smart business when it comes to offloading a few of their high-performing young stars, such as Ramon and Nico Paz. In the case of the former, they hold a modest €9 million buy-back clause, which is valid until 2027, as well as a hefty sell-on clause. Hence, Arsenal may have to open a three-way negotiation channel involving the Italian and Spanish sides, as any decision on the young defender will ultimately rest in Real Madrid’s hands.
