Chelsea, Newcastle United ready to launch move for Mile Svilar

AS Roma could anticipate interest in Mile Svilar, with Chelsea and Newcastle United ready to launch moves for the goalkeeper.

According to Siamo la Roma, Mile Svilar is attracting interest from Premier League teams Chelsea and Newcastle United. AS Roma are anticipating approaches for their goalkeeper in the summer, with the report mentioning a €50 million asking price.

Premier League clubs are expected to enter the goalkeeping market, with a number of teams looking at a player in that position. Chelsea are in the mix for a new stopper as the club are somewhat tired of the performances from Robert Sanchez, which have been hot and cold over the course of this season, as well as his career at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are expected to bring in a new stopper to add competition in the position, with recent links to Sunderland’s Robin Roefs. There are other players on their radar, including AS Roma’s Mile Svilar, with the Belgian now expected to attract considerable Premier League interest ahead of the summer.

Newcastle United are interested alongside Chelsea, with Eddie Howe angling for a new keeper in the close season. There is still no clarity on whether they are eager to sign a player like Svilar to replace Nick Pope or on-loan stopper Aaron Ramsdale, considering the latter has taken over the No. 1 spot over the last few games across all competitions.

Newcastle United are also interested in James Trafford, with the links going back to last season before he made his move to Manchester City. However, they are also keen to land Svilar, with Roma likely to come into a position of bother that could see them sell a few of their stars, including the goalkeeper.

Will Roma sell Mile Svilar?

Svilar is key to Roma’s plans and has been an important player for the team since his move in 2022 from Benfica. The Belgian has since made over 120 appearances for the club in all competitions, but the rising interest from the Premier League could switch his attention. Roma are eager to demand at least €50 million given the keeper’s current value and importance for the club, as well as the nature of the current transfer market, while they already have a replacement in mind.

Roma have no immediate plans to sell the €50 million-rated Serie A star; however, the possibility of missing out on Champions League football could force their hand. The loss of revenue from the lack of top-tier continental football could bring them closer to UEFA’s financial threshold, which might in turn force them into selling players like Svilar.
