Liverpool leading the race to sign Marcos Leonardo

Liverpool are reportedly leading the race for Marcos Leonardo ahead of Tottenham, as Al-Hilal will consider offers for their asking rate.

According to Fichajes, Marcos Leonardo is a player on the radars of at least two English clubs. Liverpool are reportedly leading the race for the Brazilian attacker, while Tottenham are also keen, with Al-Hilal likely to consider offers in the region of £55 million.

Marcos Leonardo was a player on the radars of many English sides, including some prominent ones in the Premier League, when he was playing for Santos. At the time, the Brazilian club suffered relegation, which saw Benfica swoop in for him in a bid to develop him for the European game.

Six months after he arrived in Portugal, Benfica found an opportunity to sell him on for a profit as Al-Hilal signed Leonardo. Over in Saudi Arabia, the Brazilian has been a player of resounding success, with 44 goals to his name in 72 games across all competitions, including 15 strikes this season alone.

His time in Saudi Arabia has now attracted interest from the Premier League again, as the likes of Tottenham are keeping close tabs on his situation. Al-Hilal are open to considering offers for the striker as long as suitors meet their £55 million asking price, given that he still has a contract there that only expires in 2029.

Spurs are battling relegation, and should they survive and stay put in the top flight, a move for the Brazilian could be on the cards. Whether they view him as the priority striker target remains to be seen, as there are talks of parting ways with Richarlison in the close season.

Liverpool to chase Marcos Leonardo?

Liverpool are also considering a move for a new striker, and as per the report, they are leading the race for Leonardo. Arne Slot’s side have two top forwards at the moment in Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, but they could add another to bring further competition, with links to Sporting CP’s Luis Suarez also emerging.

The interest in Leonardo could also materialise if they view him as a good investment for the present and future, as the £55 million-rated striker could prove to be a shrewd signing. There will be other names like Suárez on their shortlist, and their interest in Leonardo might pique further if Al-Hilal are open to reducing their asking price to an extent.
