Everton will be confident of keeping 23-year-old English defender Jarrad Branthwaite at the Hill Dickinson Stadium beyond the 2025/26 season.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window amid Harry Maguire’s advancing age.
However, a summer move for the Englishman will not be straightforward, as the Toffees are not interested in parting ways with him anytime soon. TEAMtalk’s sources at Everton have also rubbished suggestions that Branthwaite’s representatives have advanced talks with Manchester United for a deal in the coming months.
Jarrad Branthwaite and his time as a senior Everton star
Jarrad Branthwaite has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in the Premier League over the last few seasons. The 23-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for Everton in recent seasons, making significant progress since returning from a fruitful loan spell with PSV Eindhoven. While a hamstring injury has stunted the player’s progress this term, he remains a pivotal figure under David Moyes.
The English international has made nearly 100 appearances for Everton thus far while chipping in with five goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Branthwaite’s progress has stimulated the interest of several high-profile clubs, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Jarrad Branthwaite has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as Harry Maguire is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career. While the former Manchester United captain is closing in on signing a new contract, they must plan for life after him.
Additionally, Matthijs de Ligt’s long-term back injury has raised concerns about his long-term viability as a first-choice starter for the Premier League outfit. Lisandro Martinez is in the same boat, compelling Manchester United to think about signing a centre-back. Several candidates, including Charlie Cresswell, have thus emerged on Manchester United’s wishlist, with Branthwaite also a viable target.
However, with the latest report suggesting Everton’s optimism about keeping the 23-year-old Englishman, the Red Devils must keep their options open in the market. The Toffees view the youngster “as a crucial player for the present and future, and believe he will play a leading role in helping them” in the coming seasons. So, a summer move seems unlikely.
