Rodri approves Bernabeu move as Real Madrid step up interest

Rodri have reportedly approved the idea of joining Real Madrid ahead of the summer as an exit from Manchester City looms large.

According to TEAMtalk, Rodri could leave Manchester City in the summer in favour of a move to Real Madrid. The Spanish international’s recent comments had stirred up speculation surrounding his future at the Etihad, as he has now reportedly approved a switch to the Santiago Bernabéu.

The international break has caused some concerns for Manchester City fans following their star midfielder Rodri’s recent comments. When asked about some links to Real Madrid, this is what the midfielder had to say, “There have been many players who’ve gone down that path playing for both clubs. Not immediately, but over time. For me, you can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.”

There are obvious concerns from over in Manchester as Rodri enters the final year of his deal ahead of the summer. There have been talks about a new deal for the former Ballon d’Or winner, who has only recently begun making regular appearances after a horrid 18 months of injury issues, including an ACL rupture, his worse period since making the €70 million move from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

Manchester City are planning on keeping their midfielder for the long haul, but some fears arise if Real Madrid comes into the equation, he could leave. Real Madrid had been showing interest for a while now, and the summer transfer window could prove to be a great opportunity to bring him in from the Premier League.

Rodri has reportedly approved the switch to the Bernabeu ahead of the summer, and all that remains is an approach from Real Madrid. Manchester City could be powerless in keeping hold of the midfielder, especially due to his contractual situation, with the club already lining up replacement options for the Spaniard.

Why Are Real Madrid chasing Rodri?

Real Madrid have been chasing a new midfielder for the holding role for two seasons now, and last summer’s departure of Luka Modric raised the need even more. Martin Zubimendi was a target at the time, but he had already decided to join Arsenal, leaving the position still vacant.

Real Madrid have been linked with a host of midfielders of late, and with Rodri now giving his seal of approval to a move to the Bernabeu, the former Ballon d’Or winner might be the right choice. Perhaps not for the long term, but at least in the coming years, the Spanish side could have the best of Rodri, as the move would make sense.
