Manchester United are reportedly prepared to pay a massive €100 million fee to test the waters for Fermin Lopez in the summer.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are considering a big move for Fermin Lopez ahead of the summer. The Barcelona attacking midfielder is the subject of significant interest from many of the top clubs, with the Red Devils reportedly prepared to test the waters with a mammoth €100 million offer for the Spaniard.
Manchester United are planning towards another summer window in which they are willing to spend heavily on the right players. The prospect of Champions League football does give the club some more leeway to spend money, as they are keen to continue their impressive squad build-up.
Midfield is a priority area for the club, whilst they are also seeking to improve areas of their backline. There might be a case that Manchester United could angle a move for another attacking midfielder, which could see the likes of Mason Mount sold if they were to receive the right offers.
Manchester United are now angling for a move for Barcelona’s homegrown star Fermin Lopez; however, there are multiple challenges ahead before they can secure the Spaniard. Lopez has been instrumental for the club under Hansi Flick and signed a new deal until 2031 as recently as January.
The Red Devils are reportedly willing to put down €100 million to test the waters with Barcelona, as Chelsea were also lining up a similar move, as per previous reports. Manchester United could push with the idea, although the final decision will remain with Barcelona, who might consider a sale if the right fee is offered.
Will Barcelona Sell Fermin Lopez?
Barcelona are still reeling from financial turmoil and might end up accepting offers for some of their existing stars. The reported €100 million offer that could arrive from Manchester United might tempt them towards a sale, but the club may resist — especially because Flick views him as a key part of the team both in the present and for the future.
Despite recent links to Xavi Simons, the club are not planning on another attacking midfielder. Moreover, the fact that Barcelona tied him down to a new deal in January is the biggest indicator of their intention to continue developing the 22-year-old homegrown star. Lopez’s own decision will also prove key in any potential operation, as the attacking midfielder is currently leaning towards spending the next several years at Barcelona.
