Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are ready to re-sign Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford this summer.
While Marcus Rashford has no future at Manchester United, he could still end up playing his football in the Premier League next season. According to a report from SportsBoom, Aston Villa have their eyes set on the English international, who was on loan at the club during the second half of last season.
Aston Villa want permanent move for Jadon Sancho
Unai Emery’s team are ready to push for Rashford’s signature if they fail to make Jadon Sancho’s move permanent. The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Villa Park. While he has racked up just over 1,500 minutes of first-team action in his 31 outings and only has four goal contributions to his name, the Spanish manager is pleased with his overall impact.
He wants Sancho to continue at the club beyond this season. Since his contract at Old Trafford runs out this summer, he could sign for them as a free agent. However, there is interest from other top clubs as well, including his former club Borussia Dortmund. The emotional appeal of returning to Germany is certainly very high.
As a result, Villa have already made a backup plan should they miss out on him. If Emery fails to convince him, the Birmingham-based outfit will quickly switch their attention towards Marcus Rashford, who is currently enjoying an impressive campaign at Barcelona.
Rashford, who came up the ranks at Old Trafford, was expected to go down as a one-club legend. But things didn’t go according to plan for him as he had a fallout with the club and ended up joining Villa for the second half of last season.
He revived his career at Villa Park and secured a loan move to Barcelona last summer. He is certainly enjoying his time under Hansi Flick as he has been involved in 39 matches and has contributed towards 23 goals (10 goals, 13 assists).
Rashford could return to Villa Park
But United do not have any intentions of sending him out on another loan. They want to cash in on him this summer. If his Barcelona dream comes crashing down, Aston Villa could end up making the most out of it.
While Rashford wants to stay away from the limelight of the English media, he could accept a move back to Villa Park, as he certainly enjoyed his short stint there.
