Liverpool begin discussions to sign Luka Vuskovic

Liverpool are reportedly plotting an ambitious move to sign 19-year-old Tottenham Hotspur prodigy, Luka Vuskovic this summer.

Luka Vuskovic is currently on loan at German club Hamburg, and he has been exceptional for them. He has caught the attention of multiple top clubs with his performances in Germany, and he has been linked with multiple teams recently.

Liverpool could use Luka Vuskovic

According to a report by Sport BILD (h/t Sport Witness), Liverpool are hoping to secure his signature in the summer, and they have held internal talks with him. It remains to be seen whether they follow up with an official proposal to get the deal done. Tottenham will not want to lose an elite talent like him easily, and it will be difficult for Liverpool to negotiate the deal.

It is no secret that they need more quality and depth in the defensive unit. Ibrahima Konate will be a free agent in the summer, and Joe Gomez is expected to move on in search of regular game time as well. They need to replace the two players, and signing one of the best young defenders in Europe right now would be a step in the right direction. The 19-year-old has shown he is ready for the top level, and a move to Liverpool could be exciting for him.

A promising loan spell

Vuskovic has been a key player for Hamburg and has already amassed 1,980 minutes with the German club. The defender has five goals to his name, which is an elite output for a defender. The Croatian is more than just a defensive player, and his ability to influence the game in the opposition box during set pieces and his attacking runs have been very impressive. The player has registered 26 shots as well.

Defensively, he has been rock solid. He has won 77% of his aerial duels, ranking him among the best defenders in the Bundesliga. The defender has 475 ball recoveries, which ranks him top five in the Bundesliga. That suggests he is excellent in one-versus-one situations. He is also ranking top eight for blocks and top 12 for interceptions in the German League.

The 6’4″ defender has 82% pass accuracy, and he has impressed with his distribution. He has excelled in most metrics in the German League this season and has proved himself a modern attacking central defender. Liverpool would do exceptionally well to secure the signature of someone like him.

As for Tottenham, they must do everything in their power to convince the young defender to stay. He has all the attributes to develop into a world-class player, and losing him would be a devastating blow.
