It remains to be seen whether they follow up with an official proposal to get the deal done. Tottenham will not want to lose an elite talent like him easily, and it will be difficult for Liverpool to negotiate the deal.
It is no secret that the Reds need more quality and depth in the defensive unit. Ibrahima Konate will be a free agent in the summer if his impasse on contract talks with Liverpool continues in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez is expected to move on in search of regular game time amid his links with AC Milan and Bayern Munich.
