Manchester United have reportedly added David Raum to their shortlist of left-back targets ahead of the summer.
According to Fichajes, David Raum is part of Manchester United’s shortlist of new left-backs ahead of the summer window. The RB Leipzig man has been a consistent performer in the Bundesliga, and his experience could be seen as a valuable component as the Red Devils seek a competitor for the position.
Manchester United are expected to make good use of the summer window and bring in numerous players in key positions. The defence is considered an important area for improvement, with the left-back position something the club are actively looking to recruit for.
A host of names have been mentioned as potential targets, including Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies recently. Manchester United are probably still thinking about the kind of profile they seek, whether young or experienced, to compete with the likes of Luke Shaw.
Shaw’s fitness has been a source of concern over the last few years, and while he has been consistent for long periods this term, the club wants to cover their bases. Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly is a target as per recent reports, and in the current story, there are links to Antonee Robinson of Fulham.
Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell has been on their radar, and now RB Leipzig’s David Raum is the latest name on their list. The German defender has been a consistent performer in the Bundesliga over the years and could be brought in to play a significant role for Manchester United.
Is David Raum a good option for Manchester United?
Raum brings a wealth of experience to the table, although the 27-year-old German international has spent his entire career in the Bundesliga, with his 139 appearances here spread between Leipzig and Hoffenheim. Manchester United may ponder whether to bring in a younger talent or someone with the experience of Raum to compete with Shaw.
From a financial standpoint, Raum is entering the final year of his deal at Leipzig in the summer, which does make him a cost-effective alternative to the other full-backs linked within the Premier League. Whether Manchester United make a serious move in Raum’s direction will become clearer as we get closer to the summer window, although from a sporting standpoint, he could be a smart signing.
