Aston Villa could explore Morgan Rogers sale if this happens

Champions League qualification will play a huge role in Aston Villa’s chances of retaining stars like Morgan Rogers amid mounting interest.

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa may struggle to retain stars like Morgan Rogers if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. The productive key player and England international is already attracting massive interest, with the club likely to consider a big-money sale if they cannot secure a top-five finish.

The Premier League’s qualification for five spots in next season’s Champions League is yet to be confirmed, but it is heading in that direction. Hence, the teams are mentally playing to finish in those positions, with the race heating up heading into the final phase of the season, with new teams now in with a chance, as the likes of Everton, Brentford and even Brighton have a possible shout.

However, some are in the thick of a fight for a top-five place, with Aston Villa at the centre of this battle. With three wins from their last 12 Premier League games, Unai Emery’s side have lost their grip on third spot, and recently dropped down to fourth, although their win over West Ham at the weekend did allow them to open up a five-point lead over Liverpool.

Aston Villa will face a testing summer window if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, which could see them forced to sell players like Morgan Rogers. The England international has been a productive key player for Emery’s side, although he has attracted massive interest from the likes of Chelsea.

Manchester United are also keen, while there is reported interest from Liverpool and others. Overall, there are teams expected to play in the Champions League next season who are ready to invest in the productive key player and take Rogers away from Aston Villa.

Will Aston Villa Sell Morgan Rogers?

Reports have pointed towards a £100 million asking price if Aston Villa were to sell Rogers, which might then help them use the money to reinvest in the squad. Having secured a new deal for the England international back in November, the club are in a position of power to decide his future, but they will be forced to sell without Champions League football.

He might not be the only departure, as other high earners like Ollie Watkins could also leave if a reasonable offer arrives. As for Rogers, he is Aston Villa’s main star at the moment, with the club not actively considering a sale — but only if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, as without top-tier continental football, they will take a major hit on their revenue.
