Hansi Flick’s Barcelona are plotting a raid on Tottenham as they consider bringing Xavi Simons back to Camp Nou.
Xavi Simons could be on the move this summer. While it hasn’t been long since he made the move to the North London club, the Dutch international is already considering his future with Tottenham, who are struggling for survival.
Barcelona are always on the lookout for great market opportunities, and they seem to have a chance to bring back one of their La Masia products. According to a report from Fichajes, the Catalan giants are seriously considering re-signing Xavi Simons.
The 22-year-old left the club back in 2019 to join PSG, in search of an easier pathway to first-team football. Unfortunately, the move to the French giants didn’t really go according to plan for him. He revived his career at RB Leipzig before making the move to Tottenham in a deal worth around €65 million last summer.
Since joining Spurs, he has been involved in 35 matches across competitions and has even contributed towards seven goals. While it was a slowish start, the Dutch international has eventually picked up the pace. However, his future is up in the air with Tottenham fighting for survival in the top flight.
In case of a relegation, Simons will certainly push for a move away as he has no intentions of playing in the second division. Barcelona have emerged as a potential destination for the 22-year-old, who has already asked his agents to be in touch with interested clubs.
Barcelona are gearing up to re-sign Simons
The Catalan giants are well aware of the youngster’s talent, having seen him up close during his time at La Masia. They believe his return could be a perfect fit for their project.
Simons’ ability to feature as a number ten, on the flanks, as well as a striker, could really come in handy. Spurs’ current situation could provide Barcelona with a great opportunity to sign him for a bargain fee.
While they forked out €65 million to sign the 22-year-old, Spurs might have to accept offers of around €40 million. The Catalan giants are keen on re-signing him, and the emotional bond with the player could help their cause. But they are not the only club that are after him and could face stiff competition for his signature.
