Kieran Trippier could be in line for Newcastle United renewal

Newcastle United may hand a new contract to 35-year-old English right-back Kieran Trippier amid Valentino Livramento’s links with Arsenal for a summer move.

According to a report by Football Insider, Kieran Trippier may remain at Newcastle United beyond the 2025/26 season. The Magpies have been mulling over parting ways with the 35-year-old right-back after his contract ends on June 30. However, Valentino Livramento’s links with Arsenal have compelled the Tyneside outfit to consider keeping him at St. James’ Park.

How has Kieran Trippier fared in his career?

Kieran Trippier enjoyed a career renaissance after joining Newcastle United from Atletico Madrid in January 2022. The Englishman spent his formative years in his homeland and rose in prominence during his spell with Burnley. He then endured a topsy-turvy stint with Tottenham Hotspur after arriving from Burnley in July 2015.

The 35-year-old was solid during his spell with Atletico Madrid, but he was excellent in his first few seasons with Newcastle United. The Tyneside outfit signed Trippier in a deal worth £12 million in January 2022, and he hit the ground running in the second half of the 2021/22 season, becoming a transformative figure for the Tyneside outfit.

The former English international has made nearly 150 appearances for Newcastle United thus far while chipping in with four goals and 26 assists. However, Trippier’s stock has fallen in the last 18 months, with Valentino Livramento becoming the first-choice right-back. With the player entering the final six months of his contract, a departure as a free agent may be on the cards.

What next?

Recent reports have claimed that Kieran Trippier is open to signing a new contract with Newcastle United. However, the Magpies are now mulling over parting ways with the former Tottenham wide player as a free agent after his contract expires in a few months.

The Magpies have set their sights on Brooke Norton-Cuffy as a long-term replacement for the 35-year-old Englishman. The Genoa right-back is a target for several Premier League clubs, with West Ham United and Everton also vying for his signature.

Interestingly, Norton-Cuffy is reportedly reluctant to join West Ham, and Everton may be the only rival for Newcastle United in the battle for his signature. As for Trippier, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the veteran English full-back.
