Everton join race to sign Julian Brandt

Everton will reportedly compete with Aston Villa in the race to sign 29-year-old Borussia Dortmund playmaker Julian Brandt in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Julian Brandt is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on bolstering their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 29-year-old Borussia Dortmund playmaker has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

However, Everton will not be alone in the battle for Brandt’s signature, as another report by Football Insider has revealed that the Bremen native is a target for Aston Villa. With the West Midlands outfit struggling on the PSR front in recent transfer windows, they will aim to secure bargain deals this summer, making the Borussia Dortmund playmaker an appealing option.

How has Julian Brandt fared in the Bundesliga?

Julian Brandt has been one of the best playmakers in the Bundesliga in the past decade. Born in Bremen, the 29-year-old spent his formative years in Germany, passing through the academies at SC Borgfeld and FC Oberneuland before graduating from the youth division at VfL Wolfsburg. However, the experienced attacker rose in prominence during his spell with Bayer Leverkusen.

Brandt has been with Borussia Dortmund since July 2019, and he has been a pivotal figure for them in the last half a dozen years. The German international has made nearly 300 appearances for the Black and Yellows thus far while chipping in with 56 goals and 69 assists. However, he will leave the Bundesliga club as a free agent, and the situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa and Everton.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Julian Brandt has been on Aston Villa’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as Unai Emery wants to sign at least one versatile attacker in the summer transfer window to reduce the over-dependence on Morgan Rogers. Additionally, with several high-profile clubs interested in Morgan Rogers, Brandt has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa.

As for Everton, it is unclear if Jack Grealish will complete a permanent move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the summer transfer window. Additionally, Iliman Ndiaye is a target for several well-known clubs, compelling the Merseyside club to scour the market for a versatile attacker. So, Brandt is an option worth considering for Everton.

However, a Bosman move for the 29-year-old German international will not be straightforward, as recent reports have linked him with several European giants. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Brandt as he prepares to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window.
