Aston Villa and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing 29-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacker Brandt in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by BILD, as relayed by Sport Witness, Julian Brandt is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 29-year-old Borussia Dortmund playmaker has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.
However, Aston Villa will not be alone in the battle for Brandt’s signature, as a report by TEAMtalk has revealed that he is also a target for Newcastle United. Additionally, the two Premier League clubs are in contact over a possible Bosman move. Furthermore, while Tottenham Hotspur would like to sign the Bremen native, the North London club’s relegation battle has left them at a disadvantage.
Julian Brandt and his career so far
Julian Brandt has been one of the best playmakers in the Bundesliga in the past decade. Born in Bremen, the 29-year-old spent his formative years in Germany, passing through the academies at SC Borgfeld and FC Oberneuland before graduating from the youth division at VfL Wolfsburg. However, the experienced attacker rose in prominence during his spell with Bayer Leverkusen.
Brandt has been with Borussia Dortmund since July 2019, and he has made significant progress in the last half a dozen years. The German international has made nearly 300 appearances for the Bundesliga giants thus far while chipping in with 56 goals and 69 assists. However, he will leave the Black and Yellows as a free agent, and the situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Julian Brandt has been on Aston Villa’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as Unai Emery wants to sign at least one versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. Additionally, with several high-profile clubs interested in Morgan Rogers, Brandt has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa.
As for Newcastle United, the Magpies also hold a long-standing interest in Brandt, and they are pushing for his signature heading into the summer transfer window due to uncertainties surrounding Joelinton’s long-term future. Additionally, the Borussia Dortmund playmaker can slot in as a wide attacker in Eddie Howe’s system.
The latest report has revealed that Aston Villa and Newcastle United have established contact to discuss a Bosman move for the 29-year-old German international. However, it is unclear if Brandt is ready to move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
