Newcastle United are reportedly working on a major deal for Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez, with a £50 million price point being mentioned.
According to Sebastian Vidal, Newcastle United are reportedly working to explore a deal for Luis Suarez, the Sporting CP striker. The journalist states the operation could reach the £50 million mark, as Eddie Howe could be angling for a new striker in the close season.
Newcastle United exited the FA Cup on Saturday at the hands of Manchester City, which leaves only the Champions League as the realistic competition they are still playing in. The Premier League title race aside, they are not in contention for the top-four race either, as a lack of top-tier European football could potentially see a few of their stars leaving in the summer.
William Osula is also expected to depart, although the Danish striker is not a regular for the team. Eddie Howe might look for a replacement, but more importantly, the Newcastle United boss would want a proven goalscorer in his squad — something that has been a problem all season.
The Magpies have been linked with a few striker names of late, including Darwin Nunez, but Howe is not pushing for the Uruguayan. Another target mentioned recently is Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez, as Newcastle United hold an interest in him alongside Liverpool.
Newcastle United are thought to be better placed for Suarez ahead of the summer, with journalist Sebastian Vidal insisting they are already working on a deal. He also states the operation could reach figures of £50 million, which might represent a significant transfer outlay for the Magpies — especially for the striker position, where they have already invested heavily.
Why Are Newcastle United Chasing Luis Suarez?
Suarez replaced the prolific Viktor Gyökeres in the summer, and his arrival has proved to be the right decision. The Colombian international has scored 31 times for Sporting CP this season, attracting significant interest from the Premier League.
Newcastle United are interested because their summer signings, Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, have been underperforming so far this season. Should this trend with the two forwards continue, Howe will be forced to look at alternatives, and the £50 million-rated striker might be the answer ahead of the new season.
