Myles Lewis-Skelly could push for Arsenal exit this summer

Disgruntled Arsenal academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly could end up pushing for an exit this summer.

Arsenal defensive sensation Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future has become a massive talking point. The teenager is frustrated by the lack of minutes under Mikel Arteta this season, and according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the English international could end up pushing for a move away this summer.

Lewis-Skelly has been a part of the Arsenal setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team in the summer of 2024.  The 19-year-old left-back had an exceptional debut campaign, as he was involved in 39 games for Arteta’s team and even contributed towards three goals.

His performances helped him break into the England national team. The teenager was hoping to build on those performances this season. However, things haven’t gone according to plan for him. While Arsenal are closing in on the league title, Lewis-Skelly has hardly had enough Premier League minutes despite an impressive campaign last time out.

While he has been involved in 26 matches and has racked up close to 1,300 minutes, only 312 of those have come in the English top flight. The teenager is frustrated by the lack of minutes, and he could end up pushing for an exit in search of a prominent role.

O’Rourke on Lewis-Skelly’s situation at Arsenal

While speaking about Lewis-Skelly’s situation, O’Rourke said, “If he continues to find himself as third choice left back at Arsenal, there might be an opportunity for him to go out on loan.

“Obviously, he had a real breakthrough season last year, Lewis-Skelly, when he was outstanding for Arsenal and ended up signing a new contract.

“But Mikel Arteta has preferred Hincapie and Calafiori and they are two outstanding defenders, so it’s been hard for Lewis-Skelly to get opportunities.

“He’s made just one start in the Premier League and he is frustrated about that, but it’s been difficult to get into Arteta’s star-studded lineup right now.

“It’s something that the club might look at and the player himself might want to look to push for if he wants to be playing regularly.”

Lewis-Skelly to push for an exit?

Mikel Arteta has preferred Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori ahead of the 19-year-old. The duo has done wonders for Mikel Arteta, and it has made life very difficult for Lewis-Skelly. The teenager has struggled to get enough minutes and has started just one league outing.

As a result, he has started considering a temporary exit from the North London club ahead of the summer transfer window. Given how difficult it has been for him to get into the starting XI, the club, as well as the player, could now look for a loan move ahead of next season.

While Lewis-Skelly signed a new long-term deal last summer and is keen on succeeding at the club, he is aware of the amount of competition that exists in the squad. As a result, a temporary exit might be in the best interest of the teenage sensation.
