Sunderland and West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 24-year-old Mexican international Santiago Gimenez from AC Milan in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Mexican outlet El Guardian via Sport Witness, Sunderland and West Ham United are interested in Santiago Gimenez. The two Premier League clubs are keen on bolstering their offensive unit by signing another striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 24-year-old AC Milan centre-forward has emerged as a target for them.
However, Sunderland and West Ham are not alone in the battle for Gimenez’s signature, as Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on signing the Resistencia-born striker in the summer transfer window. However, with West Ham and Wolves involved in the relegation scrap in the Premier League, Sunderland may have the advantage in the race to sign Gimenez from AC Milan.
How has Santiago Gimenez fared at AC Milan?
Santiago Gimenez has hit a brick wall since joining AC Milan from Feyenoord in February 2025. While the 24-year-old was among the world’s most prolific strikers during his spell in the Eredivisie, he has not been impressive during his stint with AC Milan. Additionally, he has steadily fallen in the pecking order under Massimiliano Allegri.
The Mexican international has managed only 768 minutes of game time across 11 appearances in all competitions thus far in the 2025/26 season, chipping in with one goal and two assists. However, Gimenez’s stock remains high, with West Ham United and Sunderland among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.
Premier League adventure on the horizon?
Santiago Gimenez has been on West Ham United’s radar for a long time, and they wanted to sign him before he joined AC Milan. The continued interest is surprising, as the Hammers signed two strikers in the winter transfer window. Even if Callum Wilson depart from the London Stadium, Nuno Espirito Santo will have Valentin Castellanos and Pablo as his two strikers. Nevertheless, Gimenez remains on West Ham’s wishlist.
As for Sunderland, the Wearside outfit signed multiple strikers last summer, and most of them have been solid under Regis Le Bris. However, the Black Cats want another striker heading into the 2026/27 season. So, Gimenez is an option worth considering, with Sunderland retaining an interest in him after considering a winter move.
Apart from Sunderland and West Ham, Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on signing the 24-year-old Mexican international in the summer transfer window. However, with West Ham and Wolves involved in the relegation scrap in the Premier League, Sunderland may have the advantage in the race to sign Gimenez from AC Milan. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the former Feyenoord centre-forward.
