Championship, League One clubs eyeing Tommi O’Reilly swoop

Tommi O’Reilly is attracting plenty of interest from the Championship and League One following some impressive displays on loan.

According to Football Insider, Tommi O’Reilly could be headed to one of the Championship or League One clubs this summer. The Aston Villa academy graduate has impressed with Crewe Alexandra in League Two, and the talented winger could be ready for a step up the football pyramid.

Tommi O’Reilly might not be a well-known player in Premier League circles. Having come through the academy, which he joined aged seven, the winger has made his name in the lower leagues of the English football pyramid.

Barring a solitary group-stage appearance in Aston Villa’s UEFA Europa Conference League campaign in 2023/24, O’Reilly has not made another senior appearance for the club. To date, the youngster has played more games for Aston Villa’s Under-21 side, while at senior level he has had forays with lower-league sides such as Crewe Alexandra, Shrewsbury Town and MK Dons.

O’Reilly is currently playing for Crewe Alexandra on loan, where he has six goals and 13 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions this season. The English attacking prospect’s displays have attracted interest from EFL Championship sides as well as clubs in League One.

Should the youngster move this summer to a club in one of those divisions, it would represent a step forward in his career. It is still unclear which clubs from the EFL Championship or League One are interested, but there are teams keen to give him a significant opportunity to progress.

Aston Villa to sell Tommi O’Reilly?

Tommi O’Reilly is under contract at Aston Villa until 2028, which could make the upcoming window an ideal time to cash in for the West Midlands outfit. However, the progress the winger has made in League Two may give his parent club pause for thought, and they could even consider extending his contract before sending him out on loan again.

There is always the chance that the 22-year-old Englishman shines on loan, improving his value and allowing Aston Villa to sell for a higher fee later. However, in the current climate, if the West Midlands outfit receive a reasonable offer, they may consider a permanent move for the winger.
