Barcelona rival Real Madrid in race to sign Rodri

Barcelona are reportedly all set to battle it out with Real Madrid for the signature of 29-year-old Manchester City midfield mainstay Rodri.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona have entered the race to sign Rodri. The Catalan giants are all set to rival Real Madrid in their pursuit of the Manchester City star.

The Spanish international’s future has become a massive talking point, as he will only have a year left on his deal in the summer. With a contract renewal nowhere in sight, there are high chances of the 29-year-old Ballon d’Or winner parting ways with the Premier League giants.

On the back of an impressive season with Atletico Madrid, Manchester City forked out a big fee to sign Rodri in the summer of 2019. The Spaniard has only gone from strength to strength since and, he has played a massive part in all the success they have had.

However, recent seasons have not been that great for the Spanish international, as he has missed quite a few games because of injury. Rodri has finally regained full fitness, and he has been a constant feature in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI since the start of the new year.

While the player remains an integral part of Manchester City’s first team, his future is far from certain with his contract running out in 2027. If City fail to renew his contract in the next few months, the upcoming transfer window will be their final opportunity to bring in a significant fee from his departure.

Real Madrid are keen on signing Rodri

Real Madrid are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 29-year-old for some time now. While they have not made any moves just yet, Los Blancos are quite keen on his signature, as they believe he could be the missing piece in their midfield.

The Spanish club’s sporting directors are closely monitoring his situation, and they would pounce on the opportunity to sign him. Real Madrid believe they can sign the Ballon d’Or winner for just €50 million if he does not end up signing a new deal.

Real Madrid face competition from Barcelona

However, Real Madrid are not the only club that are after his signature. Fierce rivals Barcelona have also entered the race for his signature, as they look to further bolster their midfield. The Catalan giants believe they can afford to bring him to Camp Nou this summer.

They see this as a rare opportunity to sign a world-class midfielder for a bargain fee. Manchester City will soon have to make a decision regarding his future. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if the player is keen on returning to Spain to lead a new project.
