Tottenham eyeing Robin Roefs as Guglielmo Vicario replacement, face Chelsea, Manchester City battle

Tottenham are interested in signing Robin Roefs as Guglielmo Vicario’s replacement, with Manchester City and Chelsea also interested in him.

According to Fichajes, Robin Roefs is a target for Tottenham ahead of the summer, as they view the Dutchman as a replacement for Guglielmo Vicario. Spurs are not alone in the race, with Manchester City and Chelsea also keen on signing him, and they could have an edge in the pursuit of the Sunderland stopper.

Tottenham are thinking hard over their transfer plans for the summer, with the prospect of relegation threatening to ruin their plans. Assuming they survive the ordeal, the club are planning to make fundamental changes to their squad, starting with the goalkeeping position.

Guglielmo Vicario has been guilty of some sloppy performances this season and last, with the club actively thinking about upgrading on the Italian international. He is also attracting interest from clubs such as Juventus and Inter Milan, with a return to Serie A appearing the most likely possibility.

Tottenham have considered a host of names as a potential replacement, including Manchester City’s James Trafford, who is primed to leave the Citizens next summer. Bart Verbruggen is also a target for Spurs, and now they have added Premier League sensation Robin Roefs to their list.

The Sunderland man has been a sensation since arriving from Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen in the summer. It was a surprising move from the Black Cats, who preferred to sign him as their new No. 1 following their return to the top flight, with the club now reportedly setting a €50 million asking price if suitors come in with an offer.

Tottenham to edge rivals in Roefs race?

Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested in Roefs, but neither side is likely to guarantee the €50 million-rated goalkeeper an important role in their team, presumably as their first-choice keeper. This is where Tottenham may have an edge in the race.

Spurs are open to the idea of signing Roefs as a direct replacement for Vicario, which could prove appealing to the Dutchman. However, any decision will depend on Sunderland, especially if they finish in a European position, as well as the price they might demand to sell Roefs.
