Tottenham have identified RC Lens shot-stopper Robin Risser as an ideal replacement for Guglielmo Vicario, who has struggled for consistency.
Tottenham seem to have some big plans regarding the goalkeeping position ahead of this summer. The North London club have intensified their search for a new shot-stopper. According to a report from TEAMtalk, they have identified RC Lens sensation Robin Risser as an ideal option to replace the struggling Guglielmo Vicario.
Following an impressive rise at FC Empoli, Spurs acquired the services of Vicario in the summer of 2023. They were quite confident about him being the right man for the role, but things haven’t really worked out. Initially, there were concerns about his ability to deal with set-pieces, but of late, his overall performances haven’t been good enough.
The 29-year-old has struggled to be consistent enough. As a result, the North London club have decided to move on from him at the end of the season, irrespective of who takes charge as their next permanent manager. They have been on the lookout for a new shot-stopper for some time and have identified Robin Risser as an ideal fit for their short-term as well as long-term plans.
Spurs want Risser to replace Vicario
The 21-year-old goalkeeper has been doing wonders for Lens. He has been on fire for the Ligue 1 outfit this season, as they have emerged as surprise contenders for the title. His performances have not only put him on the radar of Spurs’ scouting and recruitment department, but have also put him firmly in the race for a place in the French squad for the World Cup.
He could end up making the French squad for their pre-World Cup friendlies against Brazil and Colombia. Risser has certainly taken his game to the next level since joining Lens last summer from RC Strasbourg, and he already looks set to make another jump in his career in a few months.
While the North London club do have other targets, Risser is the one they are most interested in, as he is one of the brightest young talents in all of Europe. Spurs are very keen on his signature, but signing him won’t be that straightforward. They will face stiff competition in their pursuit of the 21-year-old, who has only conceded 20 goals in his 23 league outings this term.
With Vicario set to leave at the end of the season, it will be interesting to see if Spurs can land the French goalkeeping sensation this summer.
