Xabi Alonso has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months, and he wants Arda Guler if he arrives at Anfield.
Xabi Alonso was sacked by Real Madrid after a run of poor results, and he is currently without a job. Widespread reports have claimed that Liverpool are willing to bring him to the Premier League at the end of the season.
It has been a disappointing season for the Premier League champions. Manager Arne Slot is under a lot of pressure. The Dutch tactician has been backed with substantial funds, but he has not managed to get the best out of his team. Liverpool could miss out on Champions League qualification next season, which could result in the departure of the Netherlands manager.
Alonso is highly rated in the game, and he could prove to be a quality option for Liverpool. Meanwhile, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Spanish tactician has already identified his first transfer target for Liverpool.
Alonso wants to sign Real Madrid playmaker Aada Guler in the summer. The 20-year-old is a tremendous talent, and he could cost around €90 million. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool is willing to pay that kind of money for him. The Reds have already invested heavily in Florian Wirtz, and he plays a similar role.
Liverpool could do without Guler
Liverpool need to improve their defence and the wide areas in the summer. Those should be Liverpool’s priority, and investing €90 million in the Turkish international might not make much sense. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
There is no doubt that Guler is an elite talent with a bright future, and he has showcased his abilities by contributing to 15 goals this season. The Turkish international could develop into a world-class player with the right guidance. However, Liverpool already have an elite talent playing in his position.
In addition, Wirtz burst onto the scene under Alonso, and it is highly unlikely that the Spanish manager will overlook him at Liverpool and opt for Guler instead. The German international is arguably a bigger talent, and he was exceptional under Alonso at Leverkusen.
