Arne Slot’s Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of former Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori.
Liverpool are looking to reinforce their backline ahead of next season, and according to a report from Fichajes, the Reds have their eyes set on AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori. They want to bring the Chelsea graduate back to the Premier League.
Tomori had been a part of the Chelsea setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team in the summer of 2017. He failed to establish himself as a key figure in their team, and after multiple loan spells away from the club, he ended up joining AC Milan in a deal worth £24 million.
He initially joined them on a short loan spell at the start of 2021, but thanks to his performances, the move was made permanent in the following summer. The 28-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since and has been one of their mainstays at the back.
So far, he has featured in over 200 matches for the Italian giants. While he prefers playing in the heart of the defence, Tomori could feature out wide on the right as well. Since he is set to enter the final year of his contract, his future has become a massive talking point.
Livepool want to sign Tomori on a priority basis
Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for the 28-year-old. The Reds want to reinforce their backline on a priority basis amidst uncertainty around Ibrahima Konate’s future. The French centre-back has been given a deadline until Easter to respond to their renewal offer.
With Virgil van Dijk also not getting any younger, the Merseyside club certainly needs to freshen things up at the back. The club’s management have already started making strategic moves, as they look to bolster their backline on a priority basis.
Tomori is considered to be an ideal fit for Slot’s system. Since he has enough experience playing in England, the Reds are ready to go all out for him. The Reds feel it’s high time for them to invest in their backline, and they are looking to bring the Chelsea graduate back to the Premier League.
A potential transfer won’t be that straightforward, as Milan continues to work on a potential renewal. Even without a renewal, he would still have a year left on his deal in the summer, but the players’ desire to return to England could play a big part in a potential transfer.
