Scott McTominay closing in on signing new Napoli contract

Scott McTominay has been linked with a move away from Napoli in recent months, with Premier League clubs keen on signing him.

Scott McTominay has been exceptional for Napoli since joining them from Manchester United, and he helped them win the Serie A title last season. He was eventually nominated for the Ballon d’Or on the back of a quality campaign with the Partenopei.

Naturally, he is being linked with a move away from the club. Manchester United and Tottenham are interested in bringing the Scottish international back to the Premier League. However, a move is extremely difficult. They would have to put forward an exceptional proposal to convince Napoli.

Napoli are currently hoping to secure a contract renewal with the player. The 29-year-old is a key player for them, and he’s enjoying his football at Napoli. It appears that the Scot might be close to extending his stay at the Italian club.

Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider, “Yeah, I think it’ll be difficult to lure him away from Napoli right now as well. It would have to be a huge offer to try and convince him to leave what he’s got right now at Napoli.

“That’s why there is talks ongoing over a new contract just to sort of end any speculation over his long-term future as well. Talks ongoing over a new deal just to extend that and end the constant talk of a potential return to the Premier League.

“Napoli offer McTominay such a great platform to play on. He’s playing Champions League football, he’s contesting for titles and trophies. So if the right offer is made in these contract talks, you would imagine there would be willingness from all parties to get this done.”

Can Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur sign McTominay?

The opportunity to play in the Premier League can be exciting for most players, but both Manchester United and Tottenham are going through periods of rebuilding. On the other hand, Napoli are pushing for major trophies. McTominay might prefer to stay there and compete at the highest level. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.

There is no doubt that Manchester United and Tottenham need more drive and creativity in the middle of the park. The Scottish international will add goals and creativity to the team. Furthermore, the player knows the well, and he might be able to make an immediate impact.
