Manchester United rival Barcelona in Julian Ryerson chase

Manchester United will reportedly compete with Barcelona in the race to sign 28-year-old Norwegian international Julian Ryerson from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Julian Ryerson is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Borussia Dortmund full-back has emerged as a target for the Premier League club.

However, Manchester United will not be alone in the battle for Ryerson’s signature, as he is also a target for Barcelona. However, the report has suggested that “the English club’s financial strength gives them a competitive edge in terms of price” heading into the race to sign the Lyngdal native in the summer transfer window.

Julian Ryerson has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League since joining Borussia Dortmund from Union Berlin in January 2023. Born in Lyngdal, the 28-year-old spent his formative years in Norway and graduated from the youth division at Viking FK.

The Norwegian international has been exceptional thus far in the 2025/26 season, providing 14 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Ryerson’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Barcelona and Manchester United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Barcelona’s interest in Julian Ryerson is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a right-back, as Hansi Flick wants an alternative to Jules Kounde for the right-back berth. While Joao Cancelo arrived from Al-Hilal last month, it is unclear if he will remain at Camp Nou beyond the summer. Additionally, Kounde is a target for several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United.

Speaking of Manchester United, the Red Devils are combing the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window.
